Still in shock....

Posted in Group:

Hello everyone.

I'm 24 and I found out today that I have HPV. I am in SHOCK bc I've only had sex with one person (my bf) and we used a condom EVERY time! How did this happen?? Anyways I have to have a colpscopy soon.... My bf (who is very supportive and feels horrible bc he probably gave it to me) thinks that maybe I should get a 2and opinion from another doctor before I have this done. But I have a feeling that this doctor knows what she's doing.

I'm just still in shock because I've NEVER taken chances with sex and somehow I get this??! :^/

do you have the kind that causes warts or the other kind that they call "high risk"?

I got high risk HPV form the first guy I ever slept with AFTER I had him get STD tests... there is no test for that for men. I was scared to deathw hen I found out I had it and my boyfriend felt horrible... now 10 years later I don't even test positive for it anymore... I get more paps than the average person because they have to test often and make sure there is no cancer... but otherwise my life is totally normal... I have had two children and am perfectly healthy...

if you have the same kind I do, i know it's scary... but if you stay on top of it then you will be okay.

I was about to do something awesome again, but I told myself, "Enough is enough! That's plenty of awesome for one day."

"They say that marriage is about making two lives into one... nobody told me that meant we both would end up becoming HIM"

Well, you're not married, so yes, you did take a "chance." Goes to show - it only takes one time to contract HPV. Take care of it as quickly as possible for your future family.

in my case even if I had "been married" I would have gotten it... this is an STD that has no tests for men, so it makes no difference if you wait until you are married to sleep wth someone... and it will not prevent her form having children... there is no need to judge this girl... what is done is done and making comments about her taking chances and "taking care" of it (what exactly does that mean anyway) for her future family isn't very helpful.

I was about to do something awesome again, but I told myself, "Enough is enough! That's plenty of awesome for one day."

Jessica-- Thank you for your story. I appreciate that you can relate in that you were being careful with your sex life and were shocked when you found out. I am encouraged to hear that you are doing well many years later; I hope to say the same for myself in a decade. In terms of what kind of HPV I have, I don't know yet but I'm about to have a colposcopy soon.... I'm really afraid of it but it has to be done. I will keep you updated.

Areyoublind-- I'm really not quite sure what you were trying to get at, but are you saying that if someone waits until they're married to have sex that that means that STD's and unwanted pregnancies go away? I'm pretty sure it doesn't work like that. And as far as my "future family" goes, who's to say that I want to have kids, or even get married? I am concerned about having this virus for MYSELF, because I have so many things that I plan to do in my career field and I just want to be healthy and ready for it. I plan to nip it in the bud soon for myself.

Hey just wanted to tell you your story sounds a lot like mine. I am also 24 and got HPV about a year ago with the first person I ever slept with... what luck we have right? When they told I had it I was so scared, I have the cervical cancer causing kind :/ and I already had a coloscopy and biopsy done. It came back normal, but I am still worried. I ask myself and God why this has to exist, it's just not fair. I was a good girl, always taking care of myself, it just goes to show infections don't care who you are... Sometimes i get over my diagnosis but sometimes I can't stop thinking about it... I am a hypochondriac lol and plus I have anxiety. fantastic, i'm just great aren't I? Anyways did you find out which kind you have? Let me know about your results, maybe we can help each other :)
